As we celebrated world mental health day a few hours ago, it is important to continue to reiterate the importance of taking care of our mental health, for ourselves first as caregivers and for our clients.
Although, mental illness and mental health discourse can still be a hush subject in many societies, it is important that we always educate ourselves and the public on how to promote mental well being.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness estimates that one in 5 people live with a type of mental disorder so now is the time to take mental health seriously.
How can you promote mental health for yourself and others?

1. Develop a positive self esteem: this provides you with ability to solve inter personal conflicts properly, helps you cope with bullying and harrasment and also boosts self confidence.

2. Encourage healthy eating habits: You should always eat balanced, nutrient-dense meals and educate others on the importance of healthy eating. Healthy eating gives you the energy you need to take care of yourselves, succeed in school, and maintain good mental health.

3. Provide safe outlets to manage anxiety and sadness: Physical activity, meditation, and creative expression all support personal growth and mental wellbeing. They also help you build resilience, which improves their ability to handle stress, anxiety, and other mental health symptoms.
