The 2020/2021 academic session best known for its virtual status has kicked off and so far, students have begun to share their opinions. While some students have claimed to find it stress free, some other students have claimed to find it stressful. When asked where the stress is stemming from, most students gave reasons like bad network connections, insufficient data resources and irregular supply of electricity. Recently, the effectiveness of the virtual classes for courses like Mathematics, Statistics, Economics and Nursing practical has been questioned by some students. Despite these, students have been trying to adjust to the new normal and make the best out of it.

It was surprising to students of the college of medicine when the deadline for payment of health Professional Levy was moved forward. The deadline which used to be some days before commencement of examination has now been shifted to 16th April, 2021. According to the memo released from the college, any student who fails to make payment before the deadline would have his/her account deactivated from the Learning Management System (LMS) for the college and such student would not have access to the platform. This attracted grievance from students at all levels as 16th of April is ‘too near’ to raise such amount of money without prior notice.

Registration process for both fresh and stale students have commenced and guidelines have been released on the school’s portal. Registration is completely an online process, and students have been advised to contact their course advisors for inquiries on courses to register for if unsure. The payment portal for fresh and stale students has also been opened. You can find payment steps and options on the school’s website as well.

As lectures continue this week, it is important we eat right, keep fit, read and stay healthy. We should continue to use our nose masks in public places, wash our hands regularly and maintain general hygiene. Your mental health is important as well- keep in touch, speak to someone and ask for help when you need to.
