Can COVID-19 be transmitted through food?
A lot have been said about COVID-19 in the last few months. Many contradicting information that leave people confused have found ways to thrive. At the end of the day, what then is the truth.
Many people have asked questions regarding food and how it affects the health especially in this period of COVID-19 pandemic. People want to know if this deadly infectious disease can be transmitted through the food they eat. I have a few answers to this question.

According to a paper released by the World Health Organization, the probability of contracting COVID-19 is very low. COVID-19 is a respiratory illness and the primary route of transmission is through person-to- person contact and through direct contact with respiratory droplets generated when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
Based on numerous researches, there is no evidence to prove that COVID-19 can be transmitted via food. However, It is expedient that food hygiene measures be carried out in order to mitigate the risk of food surfaces and food packaging materials becoming contaminated with the virus from food workers.Nevertheless, it is possible that an infected person who handles food could introduce virus to the food they are working on or unto the food surfaces by sneezing or coughing or through hand contact.

Furthermore, the food digested into the body system has a way of building the body’s immunity giving it the needed ability to fight against infections. Although, immunity building foods like fruits and vegetables should be eaten in and out of season, it is very important in this period.
The fear of contracting COVID-19 cannot subject any man to self-imposed fasting because food is essential for our sustenance as human beings.

Therefore, proper measures should be taken to ensure safe food hygiene and eating patterns.
